DestinAsian, It has been seven years since the closure and demolition of Kuala Lumpur’s beloved Hotel Equatorial, once a byword for ’70s glamour. Now, a new, rebranded incarnation stands in the same prime location on Jalan Sultan Ismail – EQ, a 52-story property with a modern and sophisticated persona.

TimChew.net, When the original Hotel Equatorial opened its doors in Kuala Lumpur back in 1973, it was the talk of the town and quickly gained a reputation as a premier five-star destination. Fast forward to 2012 and the hotel was almost 40 years old and thus the owners decided to close it for redevelopment. Well the redevelopment took almost seven years and the new Equatorial Plaza reopened its doors on 1 March 2019.
EQ ANNOUNCES SOFT OPENING
The new EQ welcomed guests recently, in its soft-opening on 1 March 2019. It marks the brand’s latest take on innovation in design and technology, as well as a renewed commitment to service excellence.
EQ offers guests a refreshing mix of heritage and modernity. In line with the soft-opening, 140 guest rooms are now ready – from Deluxe rooms and Premier rooms to Studio Suites and the Presidential Suite, which all come with a complimentary in-room mini bar. Many guestrooms also have commanding views of the Kuala Lumpur city skyline.
